Okay, turns out the circumstances weren't that sweet. The police started beating everyone in the vicinity with their shields (seen carried in the foreground) and the boy's girlfriend was knocked to the ground in the process. Trying to calm her, he leaned down and quickly kissed her. This little second was not only captured on film but in video, where you can see the whole thing go down.
